March 20th - River bank stabilization and river dynamics with Dr. John Field
In the final segment of the 2025 online speaker series Dr. John Field will be presenting on riverbank stabilization and river dynamics. President of Field Geology Services, LLC Dr. Field received a PhD from the University of Arizona in 1994 with concentrations in fluvial geomorphology and hydrology. Dr. Field was a professor for eight years and received excellence in teaching awards from the Geological Society of America and Western Washington University. His research on flood hazards and habitat issues in Arizona, Washington State, and New England has been published in numerous scientific publications and presented at professional meetings throughout the United States and Canada. Dr. Field's thorough knowledge of the scientific literature and wealth of practical experience in watersheds around the world provides a sound basis for identifying sensible solutions to watershed problems. Dr. Field has over 20 years of professional experience related to river restoration and has designed and installed numerous projects throughout New England utilizing large wood to improve river function and aquatic habitat. He has also been involved in international work, most recently in Nepal working to prevent irrigation canal intakes from being eroded away by the Karnali River, the largest in Nepal. We can't wait to see what John has planned!
