Abenaki Ecology in Vermont's Northern Green Mountains with Dr. Frederick Wiseman

Event date: Wednesday, January 27, 2021
CHC Event

For those who were not able to join our virtual gathering with Dr. Wiseman on January 27, 2021, we wanted to share an audio recording from the evening. We hope you enjoy his fascinating stories about how Abenaki may have used the uplands in the northern Green Mountains of Vermont.

The upland valleys and lower slopes of the northern Green Mountains were important areas for collecting plant and animal resources as well as siting stone-built landscapes for ceremonial and astronomical purposes. Using information from archaeology, cultural ecology and modern Indigenous practice, Dr. Wiseman shares some of the ways that Vermont's Indigenous communities have survived and prospered in the northern Green Mountains.
